Some victims suffer from Stockholm Syndrome. That is, they feel utterly dependent on their abusers for life because at times they have been. They have worked hard and had their livelihoods taken from them, while they barely live. At the far extreme, some have been kidnapped, raped, beaten, and chained, or they are family members sold into sex trade by U.S. parents addicted to drugs and looking for their next fix.

Some have been in domestic bondage in a home where some trafficker placed them in exchange for money. Some are children lured or manipulated into the sex trade after running away from abusive situations at home. Adults come along and take them in for lodging and food. Then they gradually force them into prostitution. Often these people are introduced to drugs, which their owners then use to addict and manipulate them.

Each case is different.  Every city has them. All you have to do is go to the seedier side of town and watch what happens. We can help clean this up as a society, but it means giving true aid to help the vulnerable.  As stated previously, we need funds to get our operation going and keep it going, but all of the work is volunteer. No one in the organization is paid for the work they do. That means more of your dollars will go to identify and assist victims.

As with any societal problem, the supply of vulnerable people is never ending, but we can try to eliminate the vulnerabilities that keep trafficked people down by giving them a hand up. Police deal with trafficking, finding more and more cases every year. Many of these cases historically went unreported. We are not police, we are just ordinary senior citizens trying to use our retirement to make a difference.
